SIFEM Releases 2023 Business & Financial Report

This comprehensive report encapsulates a landmark year for SIFEM, both in terms of its portfolio and as an organisation.

We are pleased to announce the publication of SIFEM’s 2023 Business & Financial Report, now available on our website. This comprehensive report encapsulates a landmark year where, for the first time in our history, our active investment commitments exceeded USD 1 billion.

A Historic Milestone

2023 was a record-setting year for SIFEM as we committed USD 143.8 million across 10 new investments. This not only represents our largest annual investment volume but also underscores our role in bridging the financing gap in developing and emerging countries amid challenging global conditions.

Investment Highlights

Our investments last year were strategically aligned with the priorities of Switzerland’s international cooperation strategy:

  • Geographic Focus: 86% of investments targeted priority countries, with 28% directed towards the least developed countries.
  • Climate and Gender Equality: Nearly half of our commitments supported climate change initiatives, and over 40% promoted gender equality.

Organizational Developments

2023 also marked a pivotal year in terms of organizational growth and governance:

  • New Management Structure: We streamlined our operations for enhanced efficiency with responsAbility Investment AG and Tameo Impact Fund Solutions SA taking on key management roles.
  • Board Transitions: Welcoming new expertise, Pascal Pierra and Laurie J. Spengler joined our Board of Directors, bringing fresh perspectives to our strategic direction.

Forward-Looking Statements

Jörg Frieden, Chairman of the Board, emphasized our ongoing commitment to the Swiss Confederation’s development strategy and our readiness to expand our impact, particularly in regions requiring concerted reconstruction efforts like Ukraine.
